Some basic information for those sensing a call to Holy Orders
I think I might be called...
You've sensed a call to the Diaconate. Ordination. Holy Orders. Not for the faint of heart!
You might be asking yourself, "How do I test this call? How do I know it's the Lord at work and not just me?" That's exactly what you should be asking. That's a part of the discernment process. And it's the best place to start.
The good news is that men who are truly called by the Holy Spirit to the Diaconate have usually been operating in the the 'charisms' or gifts of a Deacon for quite some time. They're already Deacons at heart and in practice. Ordination becomes the sacramental anointing and sanctifying seal upon that call.
In some instances, others in your church--your Rector, Warden, members of the Vestry, or even your own wife--might see in you what you don't see in yourself. Perhaps they're the ones encouraging you to prayerfully seek ordination for the spirit in which you are already operating.

What Is a Deacon?
In many churches, Deacons are commissioned within a local congregation to tend to the physical and tangible needs of the people. This is certainly biblical. But a Deacon is something quite more in a sacramental setting. Click the button below for a deeper explanation of what a Deacon is within the Missionary Diocese of All Saints.

What Is the Discernment Process?
The discernment process may look very different for each person. It is a matter of prayer and decision-making between you, your rector, your parish, and your Vicar General. The consensus of all involved must be reached in obedience to the mind of Christ. When everyone stands in agreement with Jesus, your request for Postulancy to Holy Orders is submitted to the Office of the Bishop. When it is favorably received, Trinity Hall is your next step. If you need a place to start the process, please follow the link below to a thorough guide that both you and your rector can potentially use.
